HIMYM, for those who haven’t seen it, is a sitcom that is based on the main character narrating to his kids in the year 2030, the series of events that led him to meet their mother and these events occurs in the now (2006-2007). It has got that Friends formula but with a twist of ‘Lemon Law’. However, it’s Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), this crass, womanizing, catch-phrase spewing, ‘legen… wait for it’, suit wearing, dary… character, is what I find most amusing about the show. Another thing I like about the show is that they make a lot of references to things when I was growing up that I can relate to.
Here is a clip of my favorite bit in the show. The Halloween episode…
And another… A parody of HIMYM and Barney’s ‘earlier career’…
1. I know I have abandoned my blog posts about my last travel, but a lot has been going on and I haven’t really been able to get myself to write. Hopefully, I will get back to it soon.
2. I always feel like, somebody’s watching meeee, oohh ohhh, I can’t enjoy my tea
I am still debating about becoming an anonymous ‘blogger’, not that a lot of people read my blog, but it feels like a violation of my thoughts. Also recently, I have been having this awkward feeling towards blogs as it being a self-promotional tool. It doesn’t help when your name is plastered on the URL. I guess this explains my resistance to carrying on blogging. Does blogging encourage self-centeredness?
3. Received very good news today, which has put me in a better mood.
4. Speaking of better moods… watch this clip and tell me that this does not make you smile? Feist meets Sesame Street.
So I went on Trip Advisor to look up something, but I got side tracked. I remembered the episode in The Office when they mentioned ‘Schrute Farm’ being on Trip Advisor. Out of curiosity, (and perhaps sheer boredom) I did a search on it. And it’s really on there!
Met a friend for coffee and cake yesterday for her birthday. We had quite a difficult time choosing which cheesecake to have. I finally decided on a pistachio one.
after my friend had given him her order…
ME: …Do you have the Pistachio Cheesecake?
HIM: Yes Maam
ME: Ok, I’ll have that one please
comes back with my friends cake and says
HIM: I’m sorry Maam, the Pistachio Cheesecake is out of order…
ME: smirking …ah I see it’s out of stock, right I will have the… berry cheesecake.
He leaves and my friend and I burst out laughing.
Have I mentioned that my sister makes the best cheesecake I’ve tried?
Ever wondered what’s your purpose in life?
Or, the word for ‘pleasure taken from someone else’s misfortune’?
Finally, the Broadway musical Avenue Q from NY and the West End, has crossed the oceans and is now in Manila to answer those queries. Who would have thought?
After seeing the musical last night, I can’t seem to get the catchy tunes out of my head! “It Sucks To Be Me”, “The Internet Is For… Porn” and “Everybody Is A Little Bit Racist”, are a few of the tracks off the soundtrack. You might be a bit puzzled, Sesame Street-like-puppets expressing depression, bigotry and sexual desires? Yep, one should even expect to see puppets fornicating on stage! Which I think is the kind of episodes they should have shown on Sesame Street (minus the sex bit). Learn from a young age, that there are times in our lives when life sucks because you can’t pay the bills because you can’t get a job or you are in your thirties and still don’t know what to do with your life, or that relationships are complicated and being an adult can get lonely, or that the world is not colour blind when it comes to race. The play addresses such issues — only light humoured. You can’t help but feel better after watching Avenue Q simply because it’s your life, only, in a fantastic theatrical production!
I was quite skeptical about seeing another play produced locally. I still have not recovered from my recent disappointments with the Rep. I was concerned that they would again, adapt the play to the local environment. However, this production was done brilliantly and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The casting was perfect, Rachel Alejandro played Kate Monster & Lucy The Slut and I thought she was quite impressive. The only thing I was not quite sure of, was Aiza Siguerra’s role as the character of Gary Coleman, but perhaps it worked out for the best as she too was a former child star, as was he.
I won’t say more, you will have to see it for yourself. Again, I really thought the play was absolutely fantastic and would definitely give it another go. I think people who grew up watching Sesame Street, like I did, would find the bits of parody really amusing.

I have been immersed in Dostoyevsky’s Crime & Punishment for weeks now, and although it’s weight hurts my wrist and the number of characters involved could fill an entire phonebook, it is indeed one of the most interesting books I have read. However today, I couldn’t help but wonder if it has had an subconscious effect on me. Almost a Descartian, ‘I think, therefore I am’ premise.
The story begins from my previous post about Frida’s centennial birthday and how much I admire the artist. Today, I attended my Spanish class and found out that there was an exhibit at the lobby of IC. Mainly works of local artists who has taken inspiration of Kahlo’s work, and in my opinion, bastardised it. However, I do like to post about art and exhibits in my blog and I thought, it would be quite good for me to talk about this exhibit. So I did what any blogger (aka le journaliste d’amateur) would do, whip out a camera and start writing the article in their head. I asked a friend, if he thought it was alright to take photographs, and seeing as it wasn’t really an art gallery, we assumed that it was alright. Just as I had taken a shot of the artwork, I heard someone say “NO PHOTOGRAPHS PLEASE!”. Ever so slightly humiliated by the attention brought forth by my actions, I couldn’t help but laugh to myself at the illogical and irony of this situation. My reason being is that, a masterpiece such as the Mona Lisa is perhaps the most photographed piece of art in the Louvre! You would think photographing the works I saw today, would make people realised that this may gain them some recognition, as blogs have become the new means of marketing and advertising. Being an artist myself (on a very long hiatus), this would not bother me at all, but perhaps fill me with great gratification. Don’t get me wrong, I do respect that certain things must not be photographed, but what I find hilarious is that, the piece I photographed was a photograph as well of one of Frida’s most distinguished paintings, only converted into a different piece of work!
I am not about to let this post end without me sharing with you the photograph that caused my “punishment”, which also if I were in London would have given me an “asbo” (good God!).
(On the other hand, my Spanish teacher was quite amused with the story that I got told off from the management! haha!)
Okay, tell me what I should think, when I am strolling along the soap aisle in the supermarket and see this?
a) I should take a photo and send it to Leno?
b) Am I reading it correctly?
c) Do the Scientology people know about this or perhaps have they come up with it?
What I find astonishing is that, it seem to be selling more than the other two products next to it!
I tried to Wiki it, and found nothing on this being a common thing. I did, however, find this sales pitch on an Ebay.ph item…
Our placenta soap is purely natural placenta that came from placenta extract. Placenta soap is great for young and matured skin. It’s great for removing wrinkles, whitening, rejuvenating and anti-aging. Great for whitening dark spots and renewing skin making it more youthful and ageless.
Placenta extract aye? There is still hope, I think to myself. It could be a plant that I have never heard of. Oh please let it be a plant! Reading on…
WHAT IS PLACENTA EXTRACT?
Placenta extract is an extract composed of highly concentrated Bio-protein, Enzyme, Hormone that are refined from healthy human placenta…
No, no, no! How vain must you be, to resort to such a product!?
Ruddy Hell its Harry and Paul, a new series in the UK. I find some of the sketches rather funny, but some can be daft as well. I particularly like the intro of the show, where in they do a parody of the “Dove - Evolution” advert. Also, this guy who pretends to listen to some lady at a party but says he can’t be bothered listening to her as she is not very important! All the times I thought the same way but kept it in. haha!
Not a cultural post today, not even about food. It has been one of those days…
I bought a book from the Tate on my last few weeks in London, called Angry Little Girls. After reading this page, it made me laugh because this girl is me in a nutshell! So I thought I’d put this up - to remind myself to continue being a tough cookie.
